Kentucky Derby Payouts 2023

The 2023 Kentucky Derby was a tight race won by a length by Mage, who held off Two Phil’s and Angel of Empire to record the win. It was only the second successful run by Mage, who became the fourth horse to win the Kentucky Derby after only having three previous starts.

2022 Kentucky Derby Payouts

Rich Strike was a well-named winner of the Kentucky Derby in 2022. Entering the race as a late scratch at massive odds of 80-1, Rich Strike beat off competition from the Louisiana Derby winner Epicenter and the Blue Grass Stakes winner Zandon. It was the second biggest upset in Kentucky Derby history, after Donerail’s 1913 win at 91-1.

2021 Kentucky Derby Payouts

There was controversy at the 2021 Kentucky Derby. It was won by Medina Spirit, who took an early lead and held off the competition. The victory marked a record-breaking seventh Kentucky Derby winner for the trainer Bob Baffert, who first tasted victory in 1997 with Silver Charm. Yet a week later, a drug test detected betamethasone in Media Spirit and the horse was eventually disqualified several months later, with Mandaloun promoted to winner.

2020 Kentucky Derby Payouts

There were no spectators present for the 2020 Kentucky Derby, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Authentic took the lead early on and maintained it for most of the race, before Tiz the Law presented a challenge at the final turn. Though it looked like Tiz the Law had the momentum, Authentic managed to pull away to clinch the win at the wire and excite those making Triple Crown picks with his name on their ticket.

2019 Kentucky Derby Payouts

It was Maximum Security that crossed the wire first in the 2019 Kentucky Derby, but he was adjudged to have disrupted War of Will and Long Range Toddy from recording a better finishing spot, having swerved into their path. Maximum Security was disqualified, with Country House promoted to winner.

2018 Kentucky Derby Payouts

The track was sloppy at the 2018 Kentucky Derby due to heavy rainfall of 2.8 inches, which broke the existing record for the Derby Day precipitation. Justify won by two and a half lengths over second placed Good Magic. It was the first time since 1882 that the winner was a horse that didn’t race by the age of two.

2017 Kentucky Derby Payouts

A number of other horses collided, but Always Dreaming avoided these issues and settled into second place, behind Lookin at Lee. California Chrome was something of a rags to riches winner of the Kentucky Derby, despite being in good form. It was his fifth straight win, but California Chrome did not have rich owners and his trainer Art Sherman was the eldest winner of the Derby at 77.

Kentucky Derby Payouts 2013
